Football and baseball
Interestingly, Mahomes was a two-sport athlete in college. He played both college football and baseball at Texas Tech, but chose to focus on football after his sophomore year.
Was drafted
Mahomes was drafted 10th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017 and became the starter in 2018. He was originally a backup quarterback for Alex Smith, who was eventually traded to the Washington Redskins.

In 2020, Mahomes signed a 10-year contract extension worth $477 million plus potential bonuses, one of the largest in sports history.
